NFPA 1851 COMPLIANT Heavy Metals Removal Solution (QDHA)

Radiation Decontamination Solutions August 16, 2022

PRESS RELEASE:

Radiation Decontamination Solutions’ Quick Decon Actinide Solution is capable of Removing >95% Heavy Metals from Fire Protection Turnout Protective Garments (NFPA 1851 Compliant)

Radiation Decontamination Solutions (RDS) (Oldsmar, FL) (www.raddecon.com); is a nuclear technology solutions company specializing in the decontamination of radioactive surfaces including: commercial, nuclear power plants, homeland security, emergency, and first responder applications; RT Technologies, Inc (Dunwoody, GA) (www.rtlasersafety.com) provides technical customer sales support for these products in the afore-mentioned markets in North America.

A recent independent testing report from Thornton Laboratories Testing and Inspection Services Inc (Tampa, FL) has determined that the RDS’s Quick Decon Actinide (QDA) solution was effective in removing approximately 95% of the heavy metals deposited on Kevlar material during a testing routine that simulated laundering of fire fighter protective garments (Turnout Gear). The QDA will be marketed in this sector as Quick Decon Heavy Metal (QDHM).

This independent test took fabric swatches of Kevlar material meant to closely simulate the physical properties of fire fighter protective outer layer garments and impregnated them with heavy metal contamination designed to simulate elements deposited in outer the surface of garments of a fire fighter following fighting an active fire. When agitated, replicating an industrial washing machine, the QDA solution was effective in removing > 80% of the heavy metal contaminants initially present in the Kevlar material with one washing and > 95% after a second washing. (Full Test Report available on request.)

This finding is significant because NFPA 1851, Standard on Selection, Care, and Maintenance of Protective Ensembles for Structural Fire Fighting and Proximity

Fire Fighting requires that Fire Protection garments must be laundered following use to a level whereby >75% of the Heavy Metals deposited in the fire protection garments must be removed during laundering procedures. NFPA 1851 states that compliance to this standard can be proven by showing that the laundered garments were decontaminated with a laundry solution that has demonstrated >75% effectiveness in heavy metal elimination via an approved testing lab’s independent test. The RDS Quick Decon Actinide Solution is >80% effective with one washing and >95 effective with two washings, in removal of the heavy metals. It has been Ok’d for use on human skin, will not harm the fabric, is a revolutionary advancement in Fire Protection Safety and is currently unmatched in the industry when compared to similar products. Please contact RT Technologies, Inc (www.rtlasersafety.com; (770) 332-0092)) or RDS (www.raddecon.com) for further information.

Extensive testing on surrogate skin indicates RDS’s Mass Effect Solutions effective for Skin Radiation Decontamination.

Oldsmar, FL – June 1, 2008. – Radiation Decontamination Solutions, LLC (a global supplier of Radiation decontamination products for the Nuclear Power industry, First Responders, Hospitals and other Nuclear-Related Markets, today announced that it completed its decontamination testing on surrogate skin. Extensive testing shows that RDS products are effective in decontamination of skin.
Various RDS products, which decontaminate a variety of specific radioactive isotopes, were tested under a simulated shower type scenario. The test documents removal of 40% to 96% of radioactive contamination on skin using minimal amounts of skin-safe RDS solutions with no scrubbing. The testing comparison against a readily available commercial wash (not approved for skin use) containing chelating agents and caustic agents, showed removal of only approximately 20% of the radioactive contaminants.
“This extensive testing is an important milestone for our company” commented Bruno Schmidt, President of RDS. “We have now scientifically established that our products are effective for use on skin. This will have important implications for the First Responder and Military markets around the world. Our products are water-based and can be used safely and efficiently on skin. They can be easily adapted to any commercial chem-bio shower system”.
RDS products are user friendly and made primarily from de-ionized water. They can be applied by a simple wash, through a wet-napkin, and in several other easy-to-apply methods. The products are sold in bulk or in spray form as part of the popular Emergency RadDecon Kit ™, and Nuclear Survival Kit ™.

Oldsmar, FL – May 8, 2006. – Radiation Decontamination Solutions, LLC (RDS) a global supplier of Radiation decontamination products for the Nuclear Power Industry, First Responders, Hospitals and other Nuclear-Related Markets, today announced the introduction of its Emergency RadDecon Kits™. These new Kits are designed for First Responders (who would be on the front-line in the event of a nuclear disaster such as a “dirty bomb” attack, an accident at a nuclear power plant, or a nuclear weapon detonation), and people who live near a nuclear facility or just want to be prepared for a worst-case scenario.
The RDS Emergency RadDecon Kit™ includes RDS “Mass Effect”™ water-based solutions marketed under the name “Quick Decon™”. According to Bruno Schmidt, President of RDS, “There is no other high-tech, scientifically formulated radiation decontamination product in production today. In fact, the federal government has traditionally recommended only soap and water for radiation because of the lack of a better scientific solution. We are excited about how the introduction of our products to the First Responder markets will radically change how cites, towns and counties prepare for a nuclear disaster. We are especially proud that our products can effectively and safely be used for human skin decontamination. There is no other comparable product available”.
“We have received tremendous interest in the Kits from police departments, fire departments, and municipal government administrators. In addition, we have already received orders from international distributors representing governmental and private entities all over the world. The concern over the possibility of nuclear disasters is growing worldwide”
Press Release – Radiation Decontamination Solutions, LLC (continued)
The Emergency RadDecon Kits™ will supplement RDS’s existing product lines of decontamination washes for the nuclear power industry, hospitals, and other commercial entities.
