Since September 11, 2001, there has been increased awareness of the possible disastrous disruptions that a chemical, biological, or nuclear terrorist attack might cause. Although there have been various solutions produced and tested for the remediation of chemical and biological contamination, no effective solution exists for nuclear contamination.

A likely terrorist weapon might be what is usually described as a “Dirty Bomb“. “Dirty Bombs” are small explosive devices made from conventional explosives attached to radioactive elements such as plutonium, uranium, cesium, cobalt, etc. When exploded, “dirty bombs” may cause relatively little physical damage to a building or area, but can contaminate larger areas and surfaces with poisonous radiation.
